Gift of Vision
Promoting Eye Care Amongst Our Youth
Since 2003, Pillar to Post has successfully run “The Gift of Vision”, where visual screeners visit school and perform visual screenings to promote eye care awareness amongst our youth. In most cases an alarming percentage of those tested, required a further eye examination or spectacles. In many cases, parents and educators were unaware that learners had any optical difficulties at all. It is crucial that these problems be detected as early as possible to avoid further damage, unnecessary headaches and shortened concentration, especially at a time when more strains is placed on the eyes in preparation for exams.
Visual screeners can visit your school at a convenient date and time to yourselves, to conduct a series of individual 5-minute visual screenings for learners and educators. Assessment reports (reports may take between 3-4 weeks to be sent back to your school) on those who may show optical difficulties only will be given to your school administrator to pass onto parents where they will received the “Gift of Vision” a full half hour eye examination valued at R300 at an optometrist in their area.
We are proud to announce that the Lions Operation Brightsight have come on board and will be able to assist many learners with spectacles at a reduced cost of R 90. In the extreme rare event that a learner requires special spectacles (buy-outs), the cost escalates to R 300. Lions Operation Brighsight provides corrective spectacles to many people throughout South Africa and neighbouring countries. To qualify to take advantage of this reduced offer:
